Presenter Background: Matt Taran has been teaching in The Bremerton School District for 6 years. He was a participant in the NCCE Peer Coaching/Technology Integration Cadre 3 grant. During his work with the grant, he was invited by The Bremerton School District to be one of three iPod pilot teachers for their iLearn project. The iLearn project brought in an Apple distinguished educator to train the participating teachers and then placed an iPod cart with 30 iPod's in his classroom for 1:1 work with students. Students in his classroom worked with the iPods to develop reading fluency and comprehension. Once students were competent with the routines created for reading work, the class began to broaden the scope of use of the iPods and began using them to work on the editing processes for writing, and creating digital stories. Mr. Taran will continue as a mentor teacher with the iLearn project again this year.
