I am a library media and technology specialist in Corvallis, Montana. As current high school representative and NCCE newsletter editor, I am inspired by the dedication and talent demonstrated by the board, conference committees and members who are the soul of NCCE. I have served on several committees on the board, as well as volunteering and presenting at conferences, and will work on the Spokane 2004 conference committee. NCCE is a vital organization because its members work together to provide a network of creative ideas worth sharing. Teachers who plug in to this network will be refreshed and continue to grow. My continuing education represents a lot gray hairs. In fact, my family asks when I will really graduate. After earning a BS in French, MA in English, endorsements in Spanish and Library, and teaching various combinations of these for 15 years, I am now pursuing a doctorate in education technology. Another seminal educational experience in my life has been as lead vocalist in rock bands for 20 years, developing the stamina (or hearing loss) to survive a lab of 30 simultaneous multimedia homages to Britney Spears. I have a strong interest in grant writing; since K-12 schools must seek funding these days, it is important that we share techniques and resources. I have received three NEH study grants, a Compaq Teaching with Technology award, and a few others. I am the Corvallis coordinator for the Montana TALES federal Technology Innovation Challenge grant, which networks fourteen Montana schools to support innovative staff development in technology integration. The board is currently examining its role in the continued vitality of our organization, and is investigating extending further learning opportunities for members. Our goal is increased communication and collaboration between board and members. My own goal is to see these efforts to fruition. We have so much to learn from each other! |
