Family and Four Legged Family Members:

Two sons, both of whom work with technology: one is an Instructional Designer for Florida Virtual School and one is a Technology Consultant to governmental agencies in Washington, DC. Three stepchildren who are more like brothers and sisters than children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. We are a very blended family that enjoys getting together to cook and share good times.
1 German shorthaired pointer puppy – 6 months old – Our pet population is down from several years ago when we had 5 horses, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Prior to the 5 horses, we had 2 steers, 4 lambs, 1 horse (boarding with us), 2 dogs and 2 cats. Can you tell we like 4 legged critters?

What would you like to see happen at the NCCE 2009 Conference in Portland in February?
I would like for school librarians to feel like they have a strand at the conference and there is a session for them every hour they are there.
I would also like to build the school library community so that people feel connected at the conference and can network with each other all year long. Maybe we could do a library media social or summit to integrate what we are doing and learning from all over the Northwest.
I would also like to see a workshop for library media specialists and tech specialists that would help them integrate state standards for information literacy and technology for students into classroom instruction. Montana just recently adopted new information literacy/ library media and technology content standards for students .
Tell us something that most people do not know about you:
My most interesting teaching assignment was teaching social studies to the Mouseketeers on location at MGM studios in Orlando
I sang with the Robert Shaw choral when I was a sophomore in college.
When my husband and I were going through our “Western cowboys stage,” we took Packing in on Mules and Horses and used to pack into the Bob Marshall wilderness to fly fish.

What technology education issues are catching your RADAR?
The Library Media program at the University of Montana- Missoula merged five years ago with the Library Media program at the University of Montana- Western to become one of the first totally online cooperative programs to be offer courses for a library media endorsement. Since all of my classes are taught online through Blackboard, I am always looking for new ways and inexpensive technologies to build community among my students, reach students with different learning styles and enhance my students’ online educational experience.
